Cheese experience

Program: Visit to a pecorino cheese producer of Pienza with a complete cheese tasting and a special informative video vision of the cheese process.

Legend claims that the Pienza founder, Pope Pio II Piccolomini, was so proud of this cheese production that was used to display his seal on the best wholes cheese. The history of Pienza is tightly bind to Enea Silvio Piccolomini that was born there on October 18th 1405 and that became Pope in 1458 with the name of Pio II. Pio II, great humanist, has transformed his native Pienza from small medieval town (the old castle of Corsignano well known from 828) in a papal renaissance residence. Bernardo Gambarelli, known as "il Rossellino", pupil of the famous architect Leon Battista Alberti, conceived and designed the original project in 1459 and works ended on August 29th 1462, after only 3 years, but neither Pio II nor Rossellino had the possibility to enjoy the new Pienza for long. Bind by a strange destiny they both died in 1464. Great town - planning structure of "ideal town" Pienza became Unesco world patrimony in 1996 and has been the background of the film " the English patient".
